Can you blow the Shofar?

The Rebbe quotes Rebbi Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev who explains the process of blowing the Shofar: we make a blessing prior to blowing the Shofar.

Why? Just like a child who says the blessing on an apple forces his father to give him the apple so that he could fulfill the blessing, so too when we make the blessing before we blow the Shofar, we ‘force; Hashem to hear our cries and fulfill our needs.
